Fantasy vs. Reality in the Paranormal Worlds of this Romance Author

A paranormal world is a fictional universe that can include creatures such as vampires, werewolves, shifters, magic, or anything considered fantasy. A fantasy deals, in part or in whole, with information or events that are not factual, but rather imaginary.

Reality is the state of things as they actually exist, rather than as they may appear or might be imagined. Reality includes everything that has existed, exists, or will exist.

Maybe my heroes/heroines are fictional characters, but the emotions they experience are real.  Love is a real emotion of personal attachment, a virtue that represents human kindness, compassion, and affection.

So…does that mean my stories are Real Fantasy?  J

Perhaps…

The goal of my stories is to transport the reader to another world and have them discover, or rediscover “love.”  As my characters struggle to deal with their internal battles, they discover their soul mates…that one person who turns the bad into good. And so I strive to take readers out of their everyday lives to new heights…unusual worlds…that can only be found in the written words.

And I hope I accomplish that in The Síoraí Legacy books.

A little bit about the series…

In Irish Gaelic, Síoraí means eternal, and that’s the fictitious premise behind The Síoraí Legacy which begins in 500 B.C. Alba – Neolithic Scotland.

The gods of the Tuatha Dé Danann have imprisoned their Fomorian enemy, Ághmach, and his Vampryss succubus, Deidra Sidhe, successfully stopping them from feeding from the blood of innocent humans.

But an ancient Oracle foresees Deidra's escape and warns the gods to prepare for her return. They must choose four guardians from the essences of unborn babes. When the time comes, those selected must lose everything and everyone that makes the human to become immortal warriors and stop the evil Vampryss from releasing Ághmach from his prison in the Underworld.

Check out the stories of the first two guardians, Fallon (Echoes of Darkness) and Cameron (Touch of Darkness) as they struggle to rediscover love and save the world.

Passionate Cooks Free Recipes

Food and love have had a long association, for Passionate Cooks: Free Recipes From Today’s Hottest Romance Authors, over 150 authors of the genre have put their pens and computers aside to don aprons, get down and dirty in the kitchen, and share their love of food.

Much like romance novels themselves, the dishes range from spicy to sweet. There is something for every taste and every level of culinary expertise. The cookbook includes New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Mari Carr’s “Wild Irish” Cream of Crab Soup recipe. Western GBLT author BA Tortuga contributes a dish as spicy and colorful as the straight-shooting author herself with Ranch Hands—a blend of Tabasco, salsa, onions and cumin, added to pinto beans, eggs, Canadian bacon and cheddar cheese and served in a tortilla. And for those of you who are feeling extra creative and sexy, there’s the Avocado Dip that doubles as body paint from mystery writer Marcia James.

Some recipes are simple, such as Down Home Mac & Cheese, while some are more exotic, such as Spicy Shrimp Risotto. There are even some gluten-free selections, like the Sweet and Spicy Gluten-Free Lo Mein-ish Noodles from erotica author Sommer Marsden. And a few are perfectly timed for a Halloween, such as Tracey H. Kitt’s Gamberi del Diavolo or Shrimp of the Devil.

Best of all, they are all FREE!

And yes, I submitted a recipe for  Banana Cookies to Passionate Cooks!  These cookies have made a huge splash at my house.

Strategy to Revising a Novel

Ten-Point Method of Revision

Every author has their own method for getting their novels ready for publishing. Below, I’ve broken down the basic ten steps that I follow when I perform my revisions on my written words.

To be totally honest, I’m not always successful in following each step to the “T”.  After all, this is my baby, and no one likes to tear apart their babies even if it is for the greater good.  And I am certainly no different, but this is my guide.

§  Remove unnecessary description. Resist the Urge to Explain (RUE)
§  Show…Don’t tell
§  Know each character’s motivations
§  Reveal the personality of a character by adding emotion to dialogue
§  Incite reader curiosity by ending a chapter early
§  Delete adverbs
§  Tighten those words
§  Draw on your senses to describe settings.  Use smell, sight, and even sounds to   describe your surroundings.
§  Shorten the length of sentences as your tension mounts.
§  Keep the story moving forward.

I hope this helps as you prepare to begin the daunting task of revising your work.

Happy Writing!

About Touch of Darkness

Her body desires a mystical warrior...

White witch Aiyanna Grey is well versed in magic, mythology, and betrayal. When vampires tear her family apart, she seeks the help of an immortal stranger. As they get closer to finding her sister, Aiyanna is in danger of losing her heart.

A powerful witch in need of his protection...

For 250 years, Cameron MacLean accepted his fate as guardian of the human race. A lost lifetime fuels his obsession to settle the score against evil until he meets a beautiful witch who incites an inferno inside him until he craves nothing but her touch.

When an ancient Vampryss threatens to use the power of the sisters to open a portal between two worlds, can the power of Aiyanna and Cameron's love strengthen their magic in time to save her sister and the world? Or...

Excerpt:

Aiyanna kept her features composed while she studied the man who looked scrumptious enough to eat. She found it increasingly difficult to maintain her stoic posture. He was drop dead gorgeous. A natural strength radiated in his perfect, tanned face. Lips, firm and sensual. Thick tawny-gold hair tapered neatly to the collar of a long black leather jacket.

His eyes drew her full attention, extraordinary eyes the color of amber, flecked and ringed with gold reminding her of tiger eyes. Fascinating, almost hypnotic.

He towered above her by at least six inches. Aiyanna always thought herself tall for a woman, especially at five-foot-six, but beside him, some might consider her elfin.

Her gaze moved over him.

Holy crap, the man’s body reminded her of a solid brick house, built to perfection. Beneath his black leather jacket, a dark T-shirt accentuated the hard rock bulges of his abs, and tight blue jeans complemented strong, muscular thighs.

She lifted her gaze to find him watching her, a devilish gleam in his eyes.

“Do ye like what ye see?”

Once again, Aiyanna forced a blank expression on her face. She shrugged. Using her best bored tone, she answered, “I guess it’s okay if you’re into that kind of thing.”

No way would she tell him that just his sexy voice, deep and accented, made her heart beat a mamba against her breast or that the sight of his masculinity made her stomach do flip flops. Nor would she admit, even to herself, she suffered from a deep physical magnetism to a man she didn’t know.
